TOP Server Online & Offline Configuration Enables Reduced Downtime

Configure TOP Server on the fly or take things offline without affecting the runtime

The TOP Server provides you with flexible control of your project and added security with Offline Editing ability in addition to Runtime mode configuration.

  • You can edit the Configuration live in Runtime mode or edit Offline and download changes when you are ready.
  • Use the live Runtime mode with the included OPC Quick Client and the other diagnostic features for Startup and Testing.
  • Use the Offline mode to make project changes offline to ensure accuracy prior to applying to your active runtime and help with project change traceability in conjunction with the Event Log.

Separate control interfaces for Administrative versus Configuration settings

The TOP Server Administration interface is used to view and/or modify settings and launch applications that pertain to user management and the server. By default, the TOP Server Administration is started and sent to the system tray when a user account logs onto the operating system.

The TOP Server Configuration interface is the main TOP Server user interface used to create projects and manage projects including configuring channels, devices, tags and other basic server components necessary for runtime communications.

  • Configuration mode is the user interface that is used to modify and look at your project, both online and offline. The Configuration can be launched by multiple users (the first user only has read/write access - subsequent users are read-only). Click on the Runtime - Connect... menu and you can load your offline configuration to the live server.
  • The TOP Server Configuration connects you in Runtime mode to the server runtime component that starts as a service by default. Any edits that you make are applied live.
    • To force the TOP Server Configuration to open in Offline Mode - go to the Tools - Options - General menu - under Startup, uncheck the box "Immediately attempt to establish a runtime connection on start".

Important Notes:

  • It is highly recommended to configure the Administrator account password during the TOP Server installation - selecting to skip this step lowers the security level of your TOP Server by allowing access without requiring user authentication.
    • When specifying the password for the Administrator account, it is extremely important to make note of that password to ensure your ability to access TOP Server after installation.

The demo is the full product once licensed. Once a client application connects to the  TOP Server, the TOP Server runtime will operate for 2 hours at a time. At the end of the 2 hour demo period, the demo timer must be reset by restarting the TOP Server runtime service.
