There are some powerful new features available with TOP Server V6.1. In case you missed it, I did a high-level post giving you an overview of the six biggest features from the V6.1 release - click here to see that post.
I'm going to assume, if you're still reading, that you use Mitsubishi controllers. I'm also going to assume that it's not uncommon for you to expect higher performing read and/or write capabilities from a communications server/driver.
And in a world where it's also not uncommon to be implementing newer controller models when a replacement is necessary (I'm sure that's true for at least some of you still reading), you need a server/driver that stays current with support for the latest Mitsubishi models available on the market. One of the goals in TOP Server V6.1, was to address both of those needs for you, as a Mitsubishi controller user.
We've had several requests recently for newer model support with Mitsubishi Ethernet, namely for the L-Series controllers and for the QnA-Series controllers.
Starting with TOP Server V6.1, both of these newer models are now fully supported, in addition to your traditional A-Series, Q-Series and FX3U controllers that I know some of you still have out there in your operations. You will now find new device models in the Add Device Wizard in TOP Server for these new models.
And, coming up in June, we will also be releasing TOP Server V6.2, which will include support for even more models - support is being added for the newest iQ-R Series and iQ-F Series controllers, ensuring you can stay current as you're required to add newer models to replace older hardware.
Previously, block sizes have traditionally been fixed, which limited performance on models released by Mitsubishi since the A-Series controllers. Having the ability to increase the block size where the model supports it (i.e. if it's newer than an A-Series or FX3U), provides substantial increases in throughput for reads and writes. For instance, the max read block size can now be approximately 3 times larger than previously possible.
In addition to increased block sizes, TOP Server V6.1 also now supports a different MELSEC message type that allows grouping individual writes together, which also contributes to additional write performance. Previously, writes were transmitted as one per transaction. With V6.1, it's now possible to group as many as 188 writes into a single transaction.
Just to summarize - basically, if you're using Mitsubishi controllers in your operations and you're not using TOP Server V6.1, it's definitely worth a look. You get the best performance and model support with TOP Server - and if you're a current license holder with an active support/maintenance agreement, it's a free upgrade!
